APA is observing American Stroke Month with our Plan4Health partner the American Heart Association. Annually, stroke causes 133,000 deaths, but 80% of all strokes are preventable. In addition, stroke is the leading cause of serious, long-term disability. People have the power to prevent stroke by controlling high blood pressure and taking steps to live a healthier lifestyle. This American Stroke Month, join Plan4Health in educating Americans on how to prevent stroke by following the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Life Simple 7:

  1. Manage Blood Pressure
  2. Control Cholesterol
  3. Reduce Blood Sugar
  4. Get Active
  5. Eat Better
  6. Lose Weight
  7. Stop Smoking

Plan4Health coalitions’ efforts to increase access to healthy food and opportunities for physical activity help address the root causes of stoke. Plan4Health, as part of a larger initiative by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), promotes healthier living, helps prevent chronic diseases, and improves health outcomes in communities around the country.
